Hintertux Glacier overview
Hintertux village is situated at an elevation of approximately 1500m, and offers direct access to the Hintertux Glacier – Austria’s only year-round ski area. This proximity ensures that visitors can enjoy snow-covered landscapes and winter sports even when other resorts have closed for the season. There is a ski piste from the ski area right back to the village base station.
Beyond skiing, Hintertux presents a variety of winter activities. Adventurous travelers can explore the Natur Eis Palast, a natural ice palace within the glacier, or delve into the Spannagel Cave, the largest cave system in the Austrian Central Alps. For those seeking more traditional winter pastimes, the village offers tobogganing, cross-country skiing, and winter hiking trails that meander through the picturesque alpine scenery.
Hintertux Glacier skiing
As Austria’s only year-round ski resort, it provides 365 days of skiing and snowboarding, with the top lift reaching up to 3250m. The glacier boasts around 60km of ski pistes during the winter season, catering to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced skiers. Generally, the Hintertux Glacier offers the most challenging skiing of the Austria glaciers.
For freestyle skiers and boarders, the Betterpark Hintertux offers a variety of lines and is one of the highest freestyle spots in Austria. The Hintertux Glacier is part of the Ski & Glacier World Zillertal 3000, which combines multiple ski areas including Mayrhofen, providing a total of 206km of slopes accessible with a single ski pass.
