One of the snowiest ski resorts in the world.
Damuls overview
The Bregenzerwald ski holiday resort of Damuls is located in the snowiest part of the Alps and is reputed to be the snowiest inhabited mountain resort in the world. Whatever the statistics, Damuls gets a huge amount of snow each winter is rated as some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the Bregenzerwald by the locals in the nearby Bregenz.
As well as the snow accumulations Damuls offers ski-in, ski-out accommodation in parts of the low rise that winds around the mountainside.
Damuls skiing
On piste the skiing and snowboarding in Damuls is a reasonably gentle affair with mostly red and blue pistes in Damuls. The skiing is nearly all above the tree-line and stretches out in a large bowl. From the Elsenalpe the ski area is clearly visible and orientation is extremely straightforward with rolling ski pistes heading back toward Damuls passing numerous slope side accommodation above Damuls. Families, including many from the nearby city of Bregenz are common visitors to Damuls.
For better skiers and snowboarders it is the off-piste that Damuls offers which is the real draw. The Damuls ski area gets massive amounts of snow and much of the off-piste skiing in Damuls is well accessed from the ski lifts, especially the routes down from the Sunnegg chair where some tree routes are also on offer. The Hohes Licht is another section of the Damuls ski area that offers some great off-piste descents after the frequent snow falls. After dark Damuls is pretty relaxed, as is common in Bregenzerwald, with just a few pockets of après ski mainly around the Uga-Express base station.
